God's Will - Making Good Decisions
These notes are only partial and are designed to accompany the sermon. Please join us each Sunday morning for the full experience!
Introduction:
- God has a sovereign will. It is the secret plan that controls all matters in the universe. Nothing thwarts the purposes of God.
- God's moral will is God's Word. It is the prescription for the life that God has revealed to us. It teaches us what to believe and how to live. 1 John 2:3-6
- God's Individual will for you is about the KIND of person you are becoming. Not which street you live on or who you're supposed to marry. We wanted to disassemble the "dot" teaching because it's not in scripture. It causes pain and heartache in the lives of people. Jeremiah 29:11, 12-14
Five blessings of knowing you can choose for yourself:
- We can conform our beliefs to the teaching of Scripture. 27 times the term "will of God" is used in Scripture and every single time it is referring to the Moral will of God or the Sovereign will of God. Joshua 1:8
- We can eliminate anxiety and guilt about God's will. If you have three equally good choices, choose the one that pleases you. It will please God that you are pleased. Psalm 31:3,8
- We can recognize the validity of equal options. God gives us liberty to choose the option we like.
- We can avoid indecision. We are empowered by God to make our own choices within the parameters of Scripture.
- We can reduce subjectivity and start making good decisions. Subjectivity is defined as a position taken or a decision made without connection to verifiable facts.
Colossians 3:15
Context: vs. 12-14 - Peace is not necessarily an indicator of God's will. Anxiety is not necessarily an indicator that you are not in God's will.
Psalm 1
Conclusion: Obedience to God's moral will, that is God's will for our lives.
