The world begins a new year with a certain hope of another year, another chance and a new day. But we carry with us many of the same fears and longings. Is there really anything new about a new year? There is, but it is often in the midst of a definitive ending that God brings new beginnings to life.There is something restorative about a hopeful new day, because there is a coming new day. In Revelation 21:3-4 the apostle John depicts a vision of "a new heaven and a new earth" where God will dwell among us. This day is new because it is a day made by the God of new geginnings, the God who came to live among mortals. Christ is the portion that God extends every morning. Behold him come, for he will make all things new.
